L'ANESF [Association Nationale des Etudiants Sage-Femmes en France] is the French National Association of Students in Midwifery.

Who we are  :

We are a 1901 non-profit association. ANESF was created in 1989 and is the only organization that represents the students in Midwifery in France. At the beginning it gathered 5 associations that wanted to promote the topical issues that they were facing, and today it is 28 local associations of students in Midwifery located all over France. The local associations are represented at the ANESF Board of Directors and General Meeting. Each member association has got 2 decision makers who represent them nationally and who are the chosen spokesmen/women between the local and the national associations. The members of the office of ANESF are students themselves from different towns, in different years of studies ; they are all willing to involve themselves in the improvement of their training and their future career. They are elected for at least 1 year during the annual National Congress.

What we are working for :

The association is the spokesentity of the midwifery students in France, and therefore its aim is to stick up for this sector and for the students' conditions. It represents the Midwifery students at national decision-making bodies, such as :

-        our two Ministers of Regulatory Authority, the Department of Health and the Minister of Higher Education and Research

-        the Council for a continuing professional development of the Midwifery studies

-        the CASSF : the organization grouping together associations and unions of midwives

-        the CNESR : the National Council of Higher Education and Research

-        the CNOUS : an Institution that offers services to the students We are now working on the following issues

-        achieving an autonomous integration of the Midwifery course of study in the university course

-        achieving a level of five years of higher education at the Masters level in order to keep in line with European regulations

-        promoting a new approach for Research

-        guaranteeing the students with grants that suitably fits to their needs.

ANESF has the ability to initiate and to be a representative, but also to be a watchdog. As soon as some news come along, ANESF reacts, informs and consults its decision makers in order to take actions in the students' interests.

Actually thanks to its privileged link with the other local student associations, ANESF adjusts its demands and perspectives to the ones held by the students as a whole. Our association gives the possibility to the local associations to meet, to train and therefore to develop a real discussion board, a veritable student community network that will be strong and consistent, that will have an influence on the issues linked to our field, such as actions of prevention against drunk driving or Sexually Transmitted Infections, or actions of Solidarity  such as  AIDS, Téléthon, ..
